This has been one of my summer reads this year and it is a fascinating book looking at a fascinating man. Whether you love or loath Kamuzu Banda, the first president of Malawi, Alexander Chula offers a rare insight into Banda and the country he ruled. A fair assessment is given of his good works as well as his faults and failings. As a teacher at Kamuzu Academy, Chula also details aspects of Malawian culture many don’t get the depth to see.

Yesterday I received the sad news that Rev Stephen Bota went to glory following a time of illness. Stephen served SU Malawi in various capacities over the years. He was acting general secretary for a time, was a faithful council member and most recently was a writer for Timbuka Bible Reading notes. Ordained as a minister in the CCAP (Livingstonia Synod), Stephen was passionate about the gospel and seeing the youth of Malawi grow in Christ.
