Since the 1960s Scripture Union of Malawi has been working the length and breadth of the country sharing the good news of the gospel and discipling children, young people, adults and families. Originally based in Blantyre, the work spread to Zomba, Lilongwe, Mzuzu with the National Headquarters now firmly in Lilongwe. Divisional work continues from Mzuzu, Zomba and Blantyre. The work of Scripture Union is varied, but the main work is the weekly meetings of primary school pupils as they gather in over 2,000 schools for Bible Clubs. These clubs organise local rallies and annual camps. The work continues beyond the school and in partnership with the local church. SU receives a warm welcome from each denomination to promote daily Bible reading and making available the English, Chichewa and Timubuka daily read guides. SU Ladies have a monthly vibrant, Bible-centred ministry engaging in God’s Word.
In 2022 SU celebrated 50 years of ministry in Malawi and you can watch a broadcast stream of the anniversary event on the 50th anniversary page. See below for an overview of the past 50 years of SU’s work in Malawi.
